From rough earth, beautiful rock formations are made and flowers blooming through rough weather. The earth has a simple but beautiful habit of creating things that man never could. This is the inspiration for my nature photo-shoot including the pictures; “white flower”, “nice flower”, “untitled”, “rock layers”, and “sea bed”. I decided to name them as these pictures as simple as what they represent, only if you dare to look closer can you see the complexity. The pictures were taken in the peaceful city of Tobermory Ontario where the people are quiet, but the scenery is extravagant. I was inspired to take photos the moment my family entered the city, being engulfed in nature made it the center of my attention, so I thought “what better way to capture this than a picture”. The pictures were taken during the summer while the sun was bright and hot, yet I was able to use the shade of the large rock formations to take slightly darker pictures that pop less. Although the pictures are meant to be simple, the viewer is encouraged to look closer to notice the details that make a given picture unique. The great thing about nature is that no two rocks or flowers are the same, so every picture taken is different. When taking the pictures “rock layer” and “sea bed” I tried to highlight the naturally occurring layers in the rocks to add depth to the pictures, I made sure not to have any blur in the pictures, so they had a level of grittiness and reality. When taking the pictures; “nice flower”, “white flower” and “untitled” I decided to add a bit more perspective by focusing on a single flower and blurring the background on “nice flower” and “white flower”. On “untitled” I tried to highlight more than one flower because plants in the natural world grow together, and I thought it was important to represent that somewhere in this photo-shoot. Showing the imperfections and wrinkles in those flowers was also important to me, so when I look back at the pictures, I could feel like I was there viewing the real thing again. None of the photos where edited, rather I wanted to only use my camera settings to take the best pictures possible, which allowed me to practice my photography skills. These are not the best pictures I have ever taken But I found it to be a great learning experience when I was still new to photography. Overall, I am proud of the pictures I took at that time, and I believe that I am continuously improving my skill to date. I hope to soon do another photo-shoot focusing on nature, this time with superior skills to 2016 me, and using the basic skills I used on this first shoot.
